Ok so I basically just saw a post that said that because someone else in another country is worse off than I am, I’m not allowed to get mad about how women are treated.

Daily struggles with rape culture and feminist issues are trivialized because my government isn’t actively trying to stop me from going to school.

So apparently a thing happens where you can be systemically oppressed, but there is a point where “yeah, you’re just not oppressed enough to be justified in being upset.”

I’M REALLY MAD ABOUT THIS BECAUSE IT’S NOT A FUCKING COMPETITION

Yes, there are people who have it worse off than me.
Yes, I am a white female, which means that there are a lot of hardships that other women have faced that I will never have to face.

But I’m also a survivor of sexual assault, and I can get fucking mad about rape culture in this country and about how women are treated as objects if I fucking want to.

It’s the same thing when it comes to mental illnesses, especially depression: “Why are you so depressed? People in Africa don’t have enough to eat, and you’re sitting here with a roof over your head and enough food.”

Yes, it’s a problem, and a big one. The world is huge, and you can’t just simply compare one country to another. And worse - a lot of people don’t get it. Even if topic x isn’t as worse in country z as in country y, it doesn’t mean you should stop fighting. Even if what people have here is luxury in other countries with not enough water, there are enough other problems, and people need to stop telling others to ‘shut up’ only because they think people in other countries are worse off.

Silence never helped anyone. I wish some people were more objective.
